While classical 3-axis machining centres are sufficient for many standard parts, they quickly reach their limits with complex geometries. 5-axis machining adds two rotational axes to the Cartesian coordinate system, allowing a workpiece to be machined from almost all sides in a single setup.
- Tolerances to ±0.003 mm through fewer re-clamping errors
- Complex contours in a single pass — no jigs or special fixtures
- Better surface finish through optimal tool angle (Ra to 0.4 µm)
- Shorter total throughput time despite more complex programming
- Longer tool life through more uniform chip removal
